Business & finance courses
Beginner friendlyThis eCommerce course teaches you to build, launch and run an online shop the way a business should. You'll build a real Shopify store from the first module to launch day, price every product from landed cost so you know what each order leaves you, write product pages that answer buyers' questions, set up delivery and returns that meet UK law, and read a week's trading like an eCommerce manager.
Course overview
This course follows the order a real shop is built in: demand and margins, where to sell, the shop and its essential pages, product pages, checkout and payments, delivery and returns, fulfilment and customer care, getting found, your numbers, then merchandising and loyalty. You build one Shopify practice store throughout, for your own product or one of the course's case shops, and launch-check it at the end.
By the end you can test a product before buying stock, price it so every order makes money, run a shop that's legal in the UK and turn a week's trading into clear decisions. It suits makers, marketplace sellers, high-street shops going online and anyone running a store for an employer. You don't need a product yet.

Career outcomes
Every online shop needs someone who can build pages, price delivery and read the numbers. A working store, a trading report and a walkthrough show an employer or client you've done the job, not just read about it.

If you're selling your time rather than products, take Freelancing instead. If you're still choosing a business structure or need a cash flow forecast, start with Small Business Management and come back to build the shop. And if your shop is already live and the real problem is traffic, Digital Marketing is the better spend.
A course advisor will talk it through with you free, and will say so if a different course fits your goal better.
Good to know
Everything from a product idea to a shop ready for its first order. You check demand and work out margins, choose where to sell, build the shop and its legal pages, write product pages that sell, set up checkout, payments and VAT, price delivery and write a returns policy that meets UK consumer law, then run dispatch, stock and customer care. After that you win your first visitors, read your trading numbers and raise order value, and finish by launch-checking your store and presenting it in a short walkthrough.
No. You can build for your own product or one of the course's case shops: a Brighton illustrator selling prints through print on demand, a Yorkshire maker of leather dog collars, or a Leicester sportswear shop adding online sales. Early on you also learn to check demand before you spend anything on stock.
Shopify. You build a real Shopify store from start to finish, and the course compares it with Amazon, eBay, Etsy, WooCommerce, Squarespace and Wix so you choose with your eyes open. The pricing, product, legal and operations skills carry across to any of them.
No. You build in a free Shopify practice store that can be launched later, and only pay for a plan when you're ready to take real orders. Everything else the course uses has a free plan, and you only pay for postage or printing if you actually send something.
Both have a place, and the course helps you decide. Marketplaces bring buyers but take fees and control, while your own shop takes more work to fill and keeps the customer. You work out each option's true monthly cost, and you see how a Shopify shop runs alongside a marketplace with stock kept in sync.
It covers how a new shop gets found without a big budget: search, free Google listings, Instagram, TikTok and email. For paid ads in depth, Digital Marketing, Google Ads and Meta Ads are the natural next courses.
Start small and in the right order: one product, proof that people want it, a price that leaves money on every order, then a shop built in a free practice store before you spend on anything else. That's the order this course follows, and you need no design or coding skills to follow it.
Yes. Pass the final assessment and you get an OBA certificate of completion that an employer can verify online. It isn't a Shopify certification. The working store, trading report and walkthrough you build are the other half of the proof.
