Layers and masks first, then everything they make possible: retouching, branding, illustration, mockups and composites that hold together.
Outcomes
Curriculum
10 modules and 166 lessons, with around 50 hours of video. Work through them in order, at your own pace.
Portfolio
A certificate proves you finished. The work you build along the way is what gets you hired.
A logo, its one-colour version, packaging, social pieces and the guidelines document a client actually receives.
Your own designs wrapped onto cans, fabric, screens and everyday objects you photograph yourself.
Several photographs built into one scene, with the light, the depth and the grade matched across all of it.
Fit
When not to buy this course
If your editing is mostly organising and adjusting whole photo shoots, Adobe Lightroom is the better fit. Photoshop earns its place when you need to work on a single image deeply.
Good to know
Photoshop is a paid Adobe subscription, so yes, eventually. Adobe offers a free trial, which is enough to start the course and decide whether it is for you.
It has a reputation, and the honest answer is that module one is the hard part. Once layers, masks and selections make sense, almost everything else in the course is a variation on them. Take the first module slowly and the other nine go quickly.
166 lessons and about 50 hours of video across ten modules, every lesson with written notes and key takeaways, plus 124 interactive steps, ten checkpoints of eight questions and a 20-question final assessment. Photo editing is one module of the ten. The rest is graphic design and branding, digital illustration, mockups and smart objects, textures and effects, creative compositing, advanced retouching, a 3D module and three bonus projects.
No. The videos sometimes refer to a resource pack of images, and no pack was delivered with this material, so every lesson that leans on one says so and gives a route that costs nothing. Free-licence photograph sites cover almost all of it, and for a good deal of the work your own photographs are the better exercise anyway.
Module 9 does, and it is worth knowing before you start it that Adobe has removed those features: there is no 3D menu or panel in current versions, and that work now lives in separate applications. The module is still worth watching, because the concepts are the vocabulary of every 3D application and because the chrome, metallic and glossy effects in it are built with ordinary Photoshop filters. Every lesson in that module says so at the top.
Because the material is several recordings joined together. Lesson 9.15 and lesson 10.1 both sign off as though you have finished, and there are five more lessons after the first of them, including three bonus projects. Those lessons say so, so you do not stop early.
Lightroom is for organising and editing whole shoots quickly. Photoshop is for deep work on individual images: retouching, cutouts and composites. Many photographers end up using both.
Every OBA certificate can be verified online by an employer. The edited images you produce along the way are the other half of the proof.
Every course has a 7-day money-back guarantee, and Adobe's trial means you can test the software in the same window. If it does not fit, we refund you.
