Technology & AI courses
Intermediate levelLearn data analysis with Python the way analysts actually use it: on messy exports, in pandas, with numbers that add up to the penny. Following a UK pet supplies retailer, you'll load files, databases and APIs, clean them through one tested function, join tables without losing a row and explain exactly why sales moved. Then you'll turn the whole analysis into a report that reruns with one command.
Course overview
This course takes a pet supplies retailer from messy order exports to answers its managers can act on. After a quick first answer and a refresher on the Python and Git that data work leans on, you'll select, load, clean, group and join data in pandas, build time series and cohorts, chart and map your findings, explain what changed and why, and automate the lot, before a capstone on UK open data.
By the end you can take a raw export to a checked, reconciled answer, show your working in charts and a one-page write-up, and make next month's report a single command. It suits analysts, career changers and anyone in finance, marketing or operations with some Python to put to work.

Career outcomes
Python is what analysts reach for when data gets too big, messy or repetitive for a spreadsheet, and it pairs naturally with SQL and a reporting tool. Your certificate shows you've learned it, and a published analysis that reruns from one command shows how carefully you work.

If loops and functions are still new to you, take Python Programming first, then come straight back. If the goal is dashboards other people click through, Power BI gets you there sooner. And if your data lives in a database, SQL is the skill to pair with this one.
A course advisor will talk it through with you free, and will say so if a different course fits your goal better.
Good to know
It follows a UK pet supplies retailer from messy order exports to answers its managers can act on. You start with a quick first answer, then sharpen the Python and Git that data work leans on before moving into pandas: selecting and filtering, loading from files, databases and APIs, cleaning, grouping and reshaping, and joining. Later modules cover dates and cohorts, charts and maps, explaining what changed and why, and turning a notebook into a report that reruns itself. A capstone on UK open data closes it.
Yes, the basics: variables, loops, lists, dictionaries and functions. If those are new to you, take Python Programming first and come back. The course opens with a refresher on the Python data work leans on, not a full introduction.
Just what the analysis needs. You'll write enough SQL to pull data from a database, and get a short primer on the statistics behind reading an A/B test. For SQL properly, take our SQL course, and for statistics from first principles, Data Science Fundamentals.
No. Python, VS Code, pandas and every other library in the course are free and open source, and the only accounts you need are free ones, such as GitHub.
Both. Excel for quick work and sharing with colleagues, Python when data gets large or messy, or when a report has to rerun every month. Python doesn't replace the spreadsheet; it takes the jobs the spreadsheet struggles with.
You don't need data from work. The lessons are built around a fictional pet retailer, and the capstone runs on free UK open data from sources such as the Food Standards Agency and the NHS Business Services Authority. Keep personal and company data out of practice work, especially anything you'd push to GitHub.
Yes, if you're allowed to install software on it. You need a Windows, Mac or Linux computer for Python, VS Code and Git, and a Chromebook won't run the scripting and testing lessons.
Yes. Pass the final assessment and you get an OBA certificate of completion that an employer can verify online. It isn't a vendor or professional qualification. The analysis you publish along the way is the other half of the proof.
