Technology & AI courses
Intermediate levelThis BigQuery course takes you from raw files to a live report that refreshes every morning, and teaches you what each query costs before you run it. Following a fictional UK homeware retailer, you'll load and shape data in GoogleSQL, rebuild sessions and a checkout funnel from raw GA4 events, partition big tables where it pays and turn one-off queries into a tested Dataform pipeline on a schedule.
Course overview
This course builds a working warehouse for a homeware retailer, from its raw order files to a report its managers open each morning. You'll start free in the sandbox, load and organise data, learn GoogleSQL and nested data, analyse raw GA4 exports and get costs under control, then partition and cluster, build a repeatable pipeline, secure it, try BigQuery's forecasting and AI features and serve it to reports, before a capstone on real data.
By the end you can load, model and serve data at scale in Google's warehouse, prove a cost saving in numbers rather than hope for one, and protect personal data the way UK GDPR expects. It suits analysts and marketers whose data has outgrown spreadsheets and laptops, and anyone who's been handed BigQuery access and wants to use it without fearing the bill.

Career outcomes
Teams lean on the analyst who can build the pipeline as well as query it, and who never surprises anyone with the bill. You finish with a certificate employers can verify and a working warehouse a hiring manager can look through in minutes.

If joins and GROUP BY still feel shaky, start with our SQL course and come back. If your data fits a spreadsheet and you mainly want dashboards, Looker Studio or Power BI will get you there sooner. And if streaming and orchestration are what you're after, that's Data Engineering Fundamentals.
A course advisor will talk it through with you free, and will say so if a different course fits your goal better.
Good to know
It builds a warehouse for a fictional UK homeware retailer, from raw order files to a live morning report. You start with your first queries in the free sandbox, then load and organise data, learn GoogleSQL and nested data, and analyse raw GA4 exports. Later modules cover controlling costs, partitioning and clustering, a repeatable Dataform pipeline, security and UK GDPR, forecasting and AI features, and serving data to reports, before a capstone on real data.
No. The course starts from setting up a Google Cloud project, and the GA4 lessons work on Google's public sample data, so you don't need an Analytics property of your own.
Little or nothing. The early lessons run in the free sandbox with no card. When you switch billing on, you set a budget alert, a query quota and a cap on what any query can spend before anything else, and the course's queries are designed to stay within Google's free tier. Keeping large tables or trying the optional AI features may add a little.
BigQuery stores and queries the data, and reporting tools present it. The course connects Data Studio (which Google called Looker Studio until April 2026) to your tables, and Power BI connects just as well if that's your workplace tool.
You don't need data from work. The lessons follow a fictional homeware retailer, and the capstone briefs use real public data, such as Department for Transport road safety figures or London cycle hire journeys. If you have access to a GA4 property, the course shows how to link it.
Yes for BigQuery, but not for SQL. The course teaches BigQuery from zero and assumes you're comfortable with SELECT, joins and GROUP BY. If those are shaky, our Certificate in SQL is the right first step, and Advanced SQL helps but isn't required.
No. There's nothing to install or maintain and you pay for what you use, so it earns its place whenever data outgrows a spreadsheet, whatever the size of the business.
Yes. Pass the final assessment and you get an OBA certificate of completion that an employer can verify online. It isn't a Google Cloud certification. Your working warehouse, code and findings are the other half of the proof.
