Technology & AI courses
Beginner friendlyThis AI for business course helps you make the AI decisions your organisation is waiting on, and back every one with evidence. Working on a fictional UK catering equipment distributor or your own organisation, you'll score use cases, cost a pilot in full, screen it against UK law, question vendors and bring your people with you, until you have an AI plan and a board paper your directors can decide on.
Course overview
This course takes one organisation from the first idea to a board decision, using a fictional mid-sized UK catering equipment distributor or your own business. It starts with what AI really does and where it creates value, then moves through choosing use cases, data readiness, the business case, UK law, security and fraud, governance, buying from vendors and leading people through change, before a pilot and your final AI plan.
By the end you can explain AI in plain English, pick the use cases worth doing, cost them in full, set rules that fit your size and take a pilot to a clear go, change or stop. It suits owners, directors and managers who have to decide what their organisation does with AI, and the consultants who advise them.

Career outcomes
When a business asks who's leading on AI, it wants someone with a plan, not just enthusiasm. The certificate shows you've learned how, and your AI plan and board paper show how you'd lead it.

If you want to use AI yourself for drafting, summarising and spreadsheets, AI at Work is the better start, and the two work well together. If you just want sharper prompts, Prompt Engineering is the quick route. And if you're ready to build automations rather than decide on them, go to AI Automation.
A course advisor will talk it through with you free, and will say so if a different course fits your goal better.
Good to know
It opens with AI without the hype: how assistants, forecasts and agents work, and why they invent facts. Then you find where AI creates value, choose the use cases worth doing, check your data is ready and build a staged business case. The second half covers UK law, security and fraud risks, governance and your AI policy, buying from vendors, leading people through change and running a pilot, and you finish with an AI plan and a board paper.
No. It's written for decision-makers. You'll understand how the tools behave and where they fail, but there's no coding and no maths.
No. A free plan of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot covers the hands-on exercises, and the free web versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint or Google's equivalents cover the rest. The course never asks you to put real company information into a personal account.
AI at Work if you want to use AI yourself, day to day: drafting, summarising, research and checking. AI for Business Leaders if you decide how a team or organisation uses it: choosing use cases, managing risk, setting policy and rolling it out. If you'll do both, the two work well together.
Yes, for most of it. A fictional UK catering equipment distributor runs through the course as a worked case, and much of the work can be done on your own organisation instead, with names, figures and roles removed. That way the plan you finish is one you could actually use.
No, and deliberately. Products change constantly. You learn how to evaluate any tool or vendor, including where your data goes and what the exit terms say, which lasts much longer than a product list.
That depends on the tasks, and the course helps you find out rather than guess. You break jobs into tasks, see which ones AI genuinely changes, learn when you must consult staff and unions, and lead that conversation openly instead of letting rumour do it.
Yes. Pass the final assessment and you get an OBA certificate of completion that an employer can verify online. It isn't an accredited management qualification such as a CMI award. Your AI plan and board paper are the other half of the proof.
