Course overview
This course takes you from installing Resolve to delivering a finished film, without leaving the app. Eleven modules and about 13 hours, one page at a time: setup and the Media page, editing on the Edit and Cut pages, effects and titles, compositing in Fusion, three modules of colour, audio on Fairlight, then export and delivery.
By the end you can cut and sync a sequence, composite a shot, read the scopes, match a scene to one hero shot, build a look you can reuse and mix dialogue so it sits above the music. Whether you edit for work or for your own channel, you finish with professional skills in a tool that costs nothing.

If your team or clients already work in Adobe, take Adobe Premiere Pro instead: the craft transfers, and matching the tools around you saves friction. If you only make quick clips for social, CapCut gets you posting sooner. And if you want a gentler first desktop editor, Filmora is the easier way in.

Eleven modules, 105 lessons and about 13 hours of video. Every lesson carries a written summary, notes and a key-takeaways panel, nearly half carry an interactive step, and there are eleven checkpoints of eight questions and a final assessment of twenty questions at 80 per cent, which is what issues the certificate. Every page of Resolve is covered: Media, Cut, Edit, Fusion, Colour, Fairlight and Deliver.
No. It's a full editor, and the Edit and Cut pages are where this course starts. Colour is the second half and it's where Resolve really stands out, with compositing in Fusion and audio on Fairlight alongside it.
Yes. The seven pages work the same way in the current free version as in the videos, so everything you learn transfers, and you may find the odd panel in a slightly different place.
Yes. The free version is genuinely capable and it's what this course uses. Resolve Studio, the paid edition, adds extras, and the videos point out a couple of Studio-only tools in passing, but nothing in the course needs it.
Resolve if you want a free tool with professional depth, especially in colour. Premiere Pro if the teams and clients around you use Adobe. The editing craft transfers between them, and we teach both.
Yes, and phone clips are fine. You edit and grade your own footage as you go, so you finish with a film of your own rather than somebody else's exercise.
A reasonably modern one. The course covers optimised media, proxies and render cache, which is how you edit footage your machine can't play smoothly. The voiceover lesson in module 10 uses an audio interface, if you want to record along.
Yes. Pass the twenty-question final assessment at 80 per cent and you get an OBA certificate of completion that an employer can verify online. It isn't a Blackmagic Design certification. The work an employer will actually ask to see is a piece you've cut and graded yourself, which is what this course builds towards.
