Office & productivity courses
Beginner friendlyThis Google Sheets course covers Docs and Slides too, so you can run an office's documents, data and decks in Google's free tools. You'll step into the shoes of a small UK firm's new office coordinator and build what it runs on: letter and handbook templates, a shared job tracker with lookups and a pivot table, a holiday tracker, a rota, a VAT-ready quote and a branded deck, all shared at exactly the right level.
Course overview
This course works through all three tools in the order an office needs them. It starts in Drive and Docs, with a sensible folder structure, documents built on styles, sharing and review, and templates a team reuses. Then comes Sheets, from a blank grid to formulas you can check, clean shared data, pivot tables and the everyday systems an office runs on, and finally Slides, from a branded theme to presenting on Google Meet.
By the end you can organise a team's Drive so files stay findable, build a shared spreadsheet that's hard to break, and share every file at the least access each person needs. It suits admin staff, office managers, small business owners and anyone starting a job that runs on Google. If you can use a web browser, you can start.

Career outcomes
Offices run on the person who knows where every file lives, why the formula broke and who can see the staff list. The certificate says you've learned the tools properly, and the toolkit you build shows you're that person.

If your next job runs on Microsoft, start with Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word instead, so the skills land where you'll use them. If you want to plan and track projects rather than run an office, Project Management Using Airtable is the better fit. And if you need live dashboards built on Sheets data, take Looker Studio once you've finished here.
A course advisor will talk it through with you free, and will say so if a different course fits your goal better.
Good to know
All three tools, in the order an office needs them. It starts with setting up Drive the UK way and documents built on styles, then sharing and review, shared calendars, and templates with smart chips. Sheets runs from a blank grid through formulas you can check, clean shared data, pivot tables and charts, to the everyday systems an office runs on: a form-fed tracker, a holiday tracker, a rota and a VAT quote. It finishes in Slides, with a branded theme and presenting in a room or on Google Meet, and an office toolkit built from a brief.
Yes, for the everyday apps: Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides, plus Forms, shared calendars and presenting on Google Meet. It doesn't cover Workspace administration or managing a Gmail inbox, and a free Google account is all you need to follow it.
Yes. All three are free with a standard Google account, which is all the course needs. Businesses pay for Google Workspace to get custom email addresses, shared drives and admin controls, and nothing you're assessed on needs a paid plan. Gemini is optional, and which of its features come with which plan keeps changing.
They're close enough that the core skills carry over both ways: formulas, lookups, sorting, filtering and pivot tables all work on the same logic. Excel goes deeper in places such as Power Query and Power Pivot, which our Excel courses cover. Learn the one your workplace uses.
No, though real work helps. The course shows you what to build at each step around a fictional UK firm, and the final project lets you choose a brief, including your own business. If you use real work, swap anyone's personal details for made-up ones first.
Yes, and the course covers it: opening and editing Microsoft Office files, sending them back the other way, and knowing what does and doesn't convert cleanly. You don't need Microsoft Office installed to do any of it.
Yes. If you can use a web browser and send an email, you're ready, on Windows, Mac or a Chromebook. You'll want a second free Google account, or a friend who's happy to help, so you can test sharing from the other side.
Yes. Pass the final assessment and you get the Certificate in Google Docs, Sheets & Slides, an OBA certificate of completion that an employer can verify online. It isn't a Google certification. The tracker, templates and deck you build along the way are the other half of the proof.
