Accounting & bookkeeping courses
Beginner friendlyThis MYOB course teaches you to keep Australian and New Zealand books in MYOB Business. You'll run a Brisbane homewares and styling business: set up its file, invoice customers, pay suppliers by bank file, count its stock, reconcile the bank and run pay runs with super. Then you'll prepare its BAS, work a New Zealand file and take a new client from another bookkeeper's messy handover to a clean month.
Course overview
The course is built around the Australian way of keeping books, set against the UK rules you may already know. You start with the financial year, ABNs, GST and tax codes, then set up items, stock and opening balances before handling sales, purchases, stock control and job tracking. Banking, payroll with Single Touch Payroll and super, and the BAS follow, then month end, a New Zealand file and a capstone client.
By the end you can run a client month in MYOB from first invoice to a BAS with a working paper that ties every label to the ledger, and handle a New Zealand GST return and KiwiSaver pay run too. It suits UK bookkeepers with Australian or New Zealand work in their sights, and anyone moving there who wants an accounts skill to take with them.

If your clients or employer are in the UK, take Xero instead, or QuickBooks if that's what they use: MYOB can't file UK VAT or payroll. And if invoices, bills and reconciliations are new to you, take Bookkeeping & Payroll first, and every module here will make far more sense.
A course advisor will talk it through with you free, and will say so if a different course fits your goal better.
Good to know
Keeping Australian books in MYOB, with a New Zealand file at the end. You'll set up a business with the right financial year, GST settings and tax codes, then work through items and stock, sales, purchases, stock control and jobs, bank reconciliation, payroll with Single Touch Payroll and super, and the BAS. It closes with month end, a New Zealand file with GST and KiwiSaver, and a capstone client taken on from another bookkeeper.
Not really. MYOB is an Australian and New Zealand product, and it can't file UK VAT, Making Tax Digital or payroll submissions. This course is for working with clients in those two countries, whether you're there or supporting them from the UK. For UK clients, take Xero or QuickBooks.
Not to start. MYOB Business has a free trial to get you going, and if you study part-time, plan on a monthly subscription for part of the course. You don't need the Windows-only AccountRight desktop app.
Learn whichever your clients or employer use. MYOB is an Australian and New Zealand product, and Xero is used there too. If your work is in the UK, our Xero course is the place to start.
You need the basics: what invoices, bills, a balance sheet and a bank reconciliation are for. No MYOB experience is needed. If those basics are new, Bookkeeping & Payroll first will make this course much smoother.
No. You keep the books for a fictional Brisbane homewares business, then a New Zealand client and a landscaping firm, in practice files of your own. Steps that need a real Australian business, such as live bank feeds and lodging with the ATO, are shown to you, so you'll recognise them in a real client's file.
Yes, with the right supervision. Preparing BAS for clients for a fee has to be done by a registered BAS or tax agent, or under one's supervision, so from the UK you'd work for or alongside a registered Australian practice. The course explains how that works, and why New Zealand clients are simpler to take on directly.
Yes. Complete the course and pass its final assessment and you get an OBA certificate of completion that an employer can verify online. It isn't a professional bookkeeping qualification, and it doesn't register you as a BAS agent. The client month you complete in MYOB shows the skill in practice.
